Genetic testing involves a number of branches of medicine. Genetics experts therefore often consult with other medical specialists: paediatric neurologists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, surgeons, etc.

Interdisciplinary consultation – with medical partners inside and outside UZ Brussel – also belongs to our current practice.

Genetic research often presents ethical questions for the doctors and researchers involved. Often it is difficult to come up with a ready answer. Issues can be discussed with other doctors in the Bio-ethics reflection committee.
It has a number of permanent members from different disciplines and brings in experts to deal with specific questions. The committee meets regularly and can be convened urgently if necessary.
